Style Guide 3: do's & don'ts of the shirt
This is a brief guide on how to wear shirts
DO: MIND THE COLLAR BUTTON
The collar button of your shirt can certainly be left unbuttoned, but this can never be done if you're wearing a tie. A tie worn on an unbuttoned shirt collar doesn't look trendy, but shabby.
The collar should also always be appropriate for the tie you're wearing, a small knot can fit several collars, but a bigger one needs a wider and more open collar.
DON'T: PICK THE WRONG SIZE
Perhaps the single most important factor when talking about shirts is size, which is crucial to look adequately dressed. A man wearing either a shirt which is too large or too slim can immediately result inappropriate. Sure, you can even have it done specifically, made to measure, or bespoke, but this is not necessary at first. If you are undecided on the size you should pick, choose a sartorial high-quality garment, which can be easily adapted if needed.
DO: LET THE CUFFS VISIBLE
One of the worst mistakes you can make when wearing a shirt is to let the cuffs too short or too long. Oversized cuffs can transform you into an eighteenth-century bourgeois or (even worse) into a scarecrow. The shirt’s cuff should stretch out of the jacket’s sleeve for about a centimeter o a centimeter and a half. A well-visible shirt cuff helps make the arm more slender, improving your overall look consequently.
